![]() ![]() Therefore, I now think I have the best setup for MacOS users to present yourself over a virtual background on Google Meet. After some Google-fu, I came across a working virtual camera plugin for OBS that works on MacOS! I’ve previously used CamTwist to power my iPhone webcam setup but it has a rather poor Chroma Key plugin. If you have been trying to get a good setup for enabling virtual background for Google Meet, read on.Ī quick background: Google Meet is the corporate standard at my workplace and we have recently been advised not to use Snap Camera for all those fancy virtual background effects. I notice the fans spin up to high when I'm connected to Meet. Memory utilization is nowhere near maximum. I only have open Slack, Chrome with ~15 browser tabs, and Google Meet. My personal devices don't suffer in this way, only the MBP.Īctivity Monitor shows that the Chrome processes go over 100% CPU utilization during these calls, coinciding with the stuttering, so it sounds like it's a system performance issue. I ran continuous pings, checked bandwidth utilization on the router, everything stayed in normal / low utilization ranges. My home Internet is synchronous 1Gbps fiber using a Ubiquiti UDM, so not your average DSL with mediocre home router setup. At first, I thought it was because I was using Wi-Fi, so I connected via ethernet (USB-C hub connected to USB-Ethernet adapter) - but the result was the same. My remote job issued me a 2019 Macbook Pro (Core i7, 16GB RAM, MacOS 11.6.2) and I've had significant trouble with Google Meet being choppy or freezing during Google Meet sessions. ![]() Special thanks for the CSS from its creators at /r/Apple: /u/Xapher19, and /u/gouch23!
